With a reputation as the most beautifully romantic city in Europe, it is no wonder that Paris, France is one of the most popular and beloved travel destinations. It is filled with attractions such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Champs Elysees and the Latin Quarter--to name a few. For the shopper, a visit to The Champs Elysees—undeniably the most illustrious avenue in Paris-- is essential. Reaching from the Arc de Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde, this street is celebrated worldwide for its avant-garde stores and boutiques, as well as its smartly-attired pedestrians. The fountains in Paris are among the most exquisite in the world.

The Place de la Concorde

The Place de la Concorde, also known as the heart of Paris, is the place to visit for historical monuments, such as the 3300-year old Obelisque, buildings and beautiful fountains. Home to famous works of art like Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo and Madonna on the Rocks, is none other than the magnificent Louvre Museum. Masterpieces and priceless treasures fill the colossal three-winged expanse: truly an experienced not to be missed. The glass pyramid near the front entrance of the museum is commonly recognized from the movie “The Da Vinci Code.

The Fine Arts Museum of Paris

If Greek and Roman art strike your fancy, might we suggest The Fine Arts Museum of Paris (Musee des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris) located in the Small Palace. Here, you will gaze upon works by the impressionists: Monet, Degas, Renoir and others. Ideally, one should plan to visit Paris during the months of May, June and September, which is the “off-season.” Travel expenses during these months are most economical, and the lines at the museums and other attractions are not nearly as long.

Summertime in Paris is delightful, as well, with the highest temperatures being around 76 degrees. And just imagine spending the winter holidays in Paris! Temperatures hover around 40 degrees F. Plus, it is prime-time for shopping those fabulous holiday sales! Indeed, there is no “wrong” time to arrange a visit!

Dos and Don'ts

Customs and etiquette while visiting Paris deserve some attention. When walking it is advisable to keep eye contact to a minimum. If someone catches your eye and smiles, a blank expression is the best response: returning a stranger’s smile equates to an “invitation.” While sight-seeing, it is recommended that one keep his or her voice at a low pitch, and their enthusiasm politely curbed. Discreet Parisians become easily annoyed with the high spirits and exuberance of tourists, and will raise an eyebrow or heave a deep sigh to express their displeasure.
